Merging dubstep and glitch hop intensity with funk and classic music from the 30’s and beyond, Defunk has surely made a name for himself in the electronic music world. He has helped create the new fresh style of ghetto-swing and electro-blues, combining elements of big band, swing and old blues with breaks and hip hop. He has also received support from the biggest names in ghettofunk, and experimented with all sorts of tempos. He has been released on five diff erent international labels, but still manages to put out free releases and remixes consistently.
His live performance is always one of a journey. He switches tempos, moods and sounds to fi t the time and place, and brings the audience for a ride that explores many facets of bass music. Whether he’s mashing up classic songs you grew up with or smashing your face off with new beats and rhythm’s, he is guaranteed to make you move!
2012 was a massive year for Defunk, as he released three EP’s on Bandcamp, had a number 1 hit on Juno Records, and a number 1 hit on the Beatport Glitch Hop Charts. He has worked with vocalists and musicians from South Africa to Canada, and even had the chance to perform with some of these artists live. Defunk has been consistently playing throughout Canada and the US, gaining new audiences and fan bases. He has also had successful tours in both the UK, co-headlining with electroswing legends Dutty Moonshine, and going solo in Australia.
