Eugene The Cat

Eugene the Cat was founded in 2012, when saxophonist Martin Scheran, guitarist Tobias Paal and pro- ducer Philipp Stemberger got together to create a danceable fusion of electronic beats, funky swing and jazzy vibes. Whether in an intimate club setting or on the big stage – Eugene the Cat will freak you out! When performing on stage, the band is supported by drummer Alexander Neubauer and singer Carolina Putz-Campos.

Their unique sound palette is composed of electroswing and ghettofunk elements underpinned by fat electronic basslines, combined with brilliant live musicianship on saxophone, guitar and vocals. Influenced by contemporary artists like Caravan Palace, Parov Stelar and Koan Sound, as well as jazz legends such
as Django Reinhard, Charlie Parker and Chet Parker, Eugene the Cat is attempting to revive the vintage sounds of the good old days in the 21st century.

Coming from totally different backgrounds, the three musicians from Upper Austria met in 2012. After the first recording session the newly-formed band started working on a live setup together with Carolina and Alexander. In October 2013, after the release of their first single, they entered the ”Local Heroesband con- test and succeeded in reaching the finals.

Numerous gigs followed, while at the same time they kept themselves busy working on their first EP. Final- ly, in 2015, Eugene the Cat won the ”Austrian Newcomer Award“! To celebrate this accolade, Eugene the Cat will perform at the Urban Art Festival in Austria, as well as in major events in in Italy, in Switzerland and in Austria. Finally, a collaboration with a UK producer is currently in the pipeline – another reason to be excited!
